§ 2.100.250. Payment of salary to extra help.

Latest version.
  • A.

Extra help may be allowed in any department when provided for in the annual budget, not to exceed the amount so budgeted. All officers or department heads are authorized to employ said extra help at a salary not to exceed the first step of the range in the classification for which such extra help is employed, unless otherwise recommended by the personnel director and authorized by the county administrator. Each officer or department head shall certify all such appointments or employments and the classifications to the county auditor-controller, immediately following the first of a month succeeding such employment.

    B.

Unless special authorization is recommended by the county administrator and given by the board of supervisors, no person shall be employed as an extra-help employee for more than one hundred twenty-five days during a fiscal year if employed on a per diem basis or for more than one thousand hours during a fiscal year if employed on other than a per diem basis.

    C.

Wherein a classified position is not filled by reason of sick leave or leave of absence without pay, and that position is necessary for efficient operation of county business, and where there is sufficient money in the department budget allocated to extra help, the department head may employ a person on a temporary basis to fill that position at the same or below the allocated range, until such time as the permanent employee returns to duty.
